THE ALL THAT! BAND

The All That! Band

The All That Band was created in 1993 for ALL THAT! Hip Hop Poetry & Jazz, the legendary hip hop open mic at the Nuyorican Poets’ Café. The All That Band brought a new spectrum of sound that included straight ahead jazz, hip hop and poetry, playing each in their own distinct styles. The band leader A.T.N., a veteran musician, has toured with such well known artists as Kenny Garret and Brooklyn Funk Essentials. He is accompanied by bassist Keith Witty and drummer Chris Eddleton.

A.T.N. and members of the All That extended family of musicians performs for the B-Boy battle at the Rock Steady Crew anniversary, one of the world’s biggest Break Dancing events, under the name Butta. Their sound is that of the early 1970’s which became the foundation of B-Boying.

They have recorded two singles for Bobbito’s label Fruitmeat, Their first single, O’kwawa se’, is an afro-funk tune in the vain of Fela or Mandrel. The B-side, Jimmy’s Tune, is just as the tittle suggests: an organ-laden funk track ala Jimmy Smith. The second single, Sunday Afternoon, is a disco rollerskating jam. The B-Side is a house remix by DJ Eli. All can be played for any dance floor from hip hop to b-boy or disco to world music.
