DEVYNITY

Devynity

Devyn Wrey-Scriven a.k.a. Devynity, began writing poetry in the sixth grade. It is from here that her talent was encouraged and forced to flourish. At 14 her mentor Barbara Rampbert, introduced her to performance poetry. Devyn began performing at local venues to hone her skills as a spoken-word artist.

Raised in South Jamaica, Queens, Hip Hop Culture was an influence not to be ignored. The albums by the Fugees and The Notorious B.I.G. among others helped to light the fire, to write those first verses that birthed the Emcee Devynity.

Devynity’s main goal as a Poet and Emcee is defy the stereotypes and to express her individuality. With an array of metaphors and conceptual lyrics condensed into melodic form, she will achieve her goal.

Devynity a Member of the 2002 Nuyorican Slam Team, won Best Young Poet at The Hottest Poets. She’s was featured on Souls of New York, PBS, and “Off The Top” WGBB. Devynity has recorded with Dead Prez, Steel (Cocoa Brovaz), and Lyricist Lounge. Performed with Malik Yoba and opened for N’dea Davenport. She has performed in numerous venues such as The Nuyorican Poets’ Café, The National Black Theater, The Black Expo, The Brooklyn Tea Party, The African Poetry Theater and The Baggot Inn.

Devynity has just finished her first solo poetic effort, Devynity: Tha Spoken Word Joynt.
