JO-JO (JOHANNA NUÑEZ)
Born in Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, Jo-Jo is a talented Latina whose soul speaks to the world through poetic expression. When she shares her words live, she communicates with honesty and integrity; her genuine expression of self prohibits anyone from calling it just "a good performance"...it's a special invitation to get to know her, see what she's seen, understand how she thinks, relate to her experiences, talk with her, laugh with her, smile with her, get angry with her, cry with her.learn with her.heal with her.dream with her.
"I write not as a poet but a person, none the opinions or situations in my life are isolated instances that affect me solely. I am just a mere spec of color painting words across the canvas called Life. Listen and learn."
Jo-Jo received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 2001. She has since performed her written work at various poetry venues, universities, high schools and group homes all over Northeast. She has been featured as a Key-Note Speaker at Columbia University (NY) and the State University of New York at New Paltz. She has also been selected as a Slam Finalist at the Nuyorican Poets Café. As an activist, Jo-Jo addresses issues from safe sex, domestic violence/trials and tribulations that women encounter to every aspect that surrounds inner city life. It is quite obvious that her soul is on a mission to touch the lives of many...she's well on her way to fulfilling that goal.
